Cardiac ablation is a procedure that scars tissue in the heart to block abnormal electrical signals. It is used to restore a normal heart rhythm and disrupt a faulty electrical pathway. Diagnostic catheters are threaded through blood vessels to your heart where they are used to map your heart's electrical signals. Sensors on the tips of the catheters transmit heat or cold energy to ablate the tissue.
